Houston, We Have a Problem!

On Friday June 8th, 2018 the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals for the third time in four years, tying the Chicago Bulls with 6 NBA Finals victories in franchise history. Kevin Durant went on to win his second championship as well as becoming the 6th player in NBA history to win back-to-back Finals MVP. Steph Curry became only the third player in NBA history to win 2 regular season MVP awards, and 3 titles over a four year span, while Steve Kerr won his 8th NBA Finals (3rd as a coach).

Today is June 11th, 2018, just three days removed from those historic accomplishments by Durant, Curry, Kerr and the rest of the Golden State Warriors, but each and every sports headline is focused on LeBron James and his decision on where he would play next season.

Many believe, as well as myself, that the Houston Rockets have a high chance of signing James, teaming up with Chris Paul and James Harden could be the recipe to finally dethroning the Warriors. Then there's the Philadelphia 76ers. A young, talented team, blue collar city, and not to mention the second coming of LeBron James in 6'10 phenom, Ben Simmons. LeBron, and every high profile free agent have been tied to the city of Los Angeles year in and year out. The Lakers and Clippers will definitely enter the LeBron sweepstakes in hopes of bringing The King to the City of Angels. Or maybe one guy by the name of Gregg Popovich could swoop in and convince to LeBron that signing with the San Antonio Spurs could be the answer.

The San Antonio Spurs in my opinion is the best decision for LeBron James because of the opportunity he will have to play for one of the if not greatest basketball minds of all time in Gregg Popovich. The levels of success the two could reach are out of this world, having two great basketball minds together as one is very dangerous for the rest of the NBA, even the Golden State Warriors. The Spurs style of play is textbook, nothing flashy, just do everything right and play by the book. That same style has earned the franchise 5 NBA Finals victories since 1996.

The Golden State Warriors have made it clear to the NBA that one or two All-Stars cant and wont beat them. LeBron James will join two NBA All-Stars as well as All-NBA players in San Antonio. Superstar F Kawhi Leonard, and PF LaMarcus Aldridge could potentially play their best seasons of basketball playing alongside LeBron James.

Wherever LeBron James signs that team will be an instant contender and favorite to win the NBA Finals. However as hard as it may be to decline the lifestyle of being a Los Angeles Laker, or the opportunity of teaming up with good friend Chris Paul and James Harden, the San Antonio Spurs is the best option for LeBron James legacy as the greatest basketball player of all-time.
